Fees

At Imrama Psychology, I want the process of accessing support to feel as straightforward as possible. Below you will find everything you need to know about session fees, Medicare rebates, and what to expect when it comes to payment. A full fee schedule is available to download by clicking on the button below.

Session Fees

All fees apply equally to face-to-face and telehealth sessions. There is no separate fee for an initial appointment, your first session is charged at the same rate as all subsequent sessions.

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends $318 per session for 2025–2026, and the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi) recommends $330. Imrama Psychology’s fees are set below both benchmarks, reflecting a commitment to making quality care accessible.

Individual sessions

Standard hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm AWST) — $270

After hours (after 5pm weekdays, or Saturdays) — $280

Couples sessions

Standard hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm AWST) — $280

After hours (after 5pm weekdays, or Saturdays AWST) — $290

Medicare rebates are not currently available for couples therapy. Some private health extras policies include clinical psychology cover, it is worth checking with your fund directly.

Family therapy (including Family Based Treatment)

Standard hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm AWST) — $280

After hours (after 5pm weekdays, or Saturdays AWST) — $290

Family Based Treatment (FBT) is an evidence-based treatment for young people with eating disorders, delivered with the whole family present. FBT sessions are billed to the young person’s Medicare account where an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDTMP) is in place. See the Medicare section below for details.

Medicare Rebates

If you have a referral from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate that reduces your out-of-pocket cost. The rebate is processed at the time of payment, you do not need to visit Medicare separately. For full details including gap amounts and item numbers, see the downloadable fee schedule at the bottom of this page.

  • If your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per individual session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Your initial referral covers up to 6 sessions. After that, your GP can provide a further referral if ongoing support is recommended — up to 10 sessions in total per calendar year.

  • Clients with a diagnosed eating disorder who meet the eligibility criteria may access a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session for up to 40 psychological sessions in a 12-month period — significantly more than is available under a standard Mental Health Treatment Plan. An Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan is prepared by your GP or specialist and is valid for 12 months. Family Based Treatment (FBT) sessions for young people are also covered under this plan. Speak with your GP if you think you may be eligible.

  • Once your out-of-pocket costs reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold in a calendar year, you may become eligible for a higher rebate for the remainder of that year. The extended Safety Net cap for clinical psychology sessions is $500.00 per service. You can track your balance through your Medicare online account or the Express Plus Medicare app.

Practical Information

  • Imrama Psychology is a cashless practice. Payment is required at the end of each session by credit or debit card, or by bank transfer (EFT). Invoices and receipts are issued automatically through the client portal.

  • Some private health funds offer rebates for clinical psychology services under extras cover. The amount varies by fund and policy. I would encourage you to check with your insurer before your first appointment and ask specifically about clinical psychology cover. A receipt will be provided after each session for you to claim.

  • Brief tasks such as referral letters, liaising with your GP, or corresponding with schools, employers, or other health professionals are included in your session fee when they are occasional and take less than 15 minutes. Where tasks require more than 15 minutes or involve regular input over time, an administration fee of $80 per 15-minute increment applies. This will always be discussed with you in advance.

  • 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

    • Less than 24 hours’ notice: 50% of the session fee.

    • No notice (did not attend): full session fee.

When an appointment is cancelled at short notice, that time cannot realistically be offered to someone else. As a sole practitioner, each slot is set aside specifically for you, and late cancellations directly affect my capacity to see clients who are waiting. I understand that genuine emergencies happen, please get in touch as early as possible and I will always consider the circumstances. Cancellation fees are not eligible for Medicare or private health fund rebates.

  • If cost is a barrier to accessing support, you are welcome to get in touch to discuss your circumstances, admin@imramapsychology.com.au
